I believe teaching engineering modules must be practical in a way where students can apply the learnt lessons in real life after graduation. The methods of delivering information should be entertaining and should focus on the students as the center of the classroom. I believe students should know exactly how the subject presented in the lecture, can be used when working as an engineer after graduation or as researcher in an academic field. When teaching engineering modules, I focus primarily on the implementation of the rules and application of the theories, by explaining with real examples, case studies and using engineering software. When I teach calculations procedures and mathematical formulas, I focus on “the why” for each step, by that I mean, students should evaluate and understand why the equations are presented in such a way, and why the next step is the logical step. When I demonstrate engineering software, I not only show the students the steps but also, I explain why we do what we do while using the software. I also explain how we know we have made the right step and reached the right result. I show how to troubleshoot the software and how to recognize mistakes. A hands-on experience, with logical thought process, that focuses on real-life problems and thinking about practical solutions are my main philosophy of teaching engineering modules.
